Thinking about getting tattooed? Whether it's your first time or you're adding to your collection, I know there are always a lot of questions. I’ve put together this FAQ to help answer the most common questions I hear in the studio. From prepping for your session to aftercare tips, this guide will give you all the info you need to feel confident and excited about your next tattoo!
1. How do I book a tattoo appointment?
Booking is simple! You can schedule your appointment through my website’s booking page. Just fill out the form with your preferred date, time, and a brief description of your tattoo idea. For larger, more intricate designs, I recommend booking a consultation first so we can discuss the details. My calendar fills up quickly, so it’s best to book ahead of time!
2. What should I do to prepare for my tattoo?
Preparation is key for a smooth tattooing experience. Here’s what you should do before coming in:
Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full meal beforehand. This helps keep your energy levels up and prevents lightheadedness during your session.
Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before your appointment, as these can thin your blood.
Dress comfortably, and wear something that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. Dark or loose clothing is often best to avoid stains.
3. Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Pain is subjective, and everyone experiences it differently. Typically, the pain feels like a scratch or mild burning sensation. Certain areas of the body, like ribs, feet, or elbows, tend to be more sensitive, while areas with more flesh, like thighs or arms, are easier to tolerate. If you’re concerned about pain, we can discuss placement and techniques to make the process as comfortable as possible.
4. How much will my tattoo cost?
Tattoo pricing depends on the size, complexity, and placement of the design. Smaller, simpler tattoos may have a flat rate, while larger, more detailed pieces are typically charged by the hour. I provide an estimate once we’ve finalized the design and the expected time. Don’t hesitate to ask for a quote during our consultation!
I also always offer pretty good deals on wanna-dos/pre-drawn tattoo flash that I’m excited to tattoo. These are a great option if you’re looking for something unique and budget-friendly!
5. Do you accept walk-ins?
I love meeting spontaneous clients! While I try to accommodate walk-ins, it's always best to call ahead or check my availability online. If I’m fully booked, I can schedule you for the next available time slot.
6. Can I bring a friend to my appointment?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring a friend for support. Just keep in mind that the tattooing process requires focus and a clean environment, so it’s important to limit distractions. For hygienic reasons, your friend will need to stay in the waiting area. If you’d like them to stay in the room, please let me know in advance, and we can discuss it to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone.
7. What aftercare steps should I follow?
The aftercare process can be different from case to case. After your tattoo is done, we will take a few minutes to talk, and I will explain everything you need to know for smooth and quick healing. I’ll also be really happy to answer any questions that you might have!
8. Do you offer cover-ups or touch-ups?
Yes! I do both cover-ups and touch-ups. If you have a tattoo that you’d like to rework or completely cover, we can discuss the best way to approach it. I also offer touch-ups on recent tattoos, so if your tattoo needs a little extra love after healing, I’m happy to help.
9. Can I get tattooed if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
It’s generally not recommended to get tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding. The risk of infection, stress on your body, and potential reactions to the tattooing process make it safer to wait. Once you’ve finished breastfeeding, you’re good to go!
10. How long does a tattoo take to heal?
Most tattoos take about 2-3 weeks to heal, depending on the size, placement, and your personal healing process. During this time, you’ll want to avoid picking at scabs, scratching, or exposing the tattoo to harsh elements. Full healing, including the tattoo settling, can take a few months, so patience is key!
11. Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
Bring any reference images or inspiration you have for your tattoo. If you’re unsure about the design, don’t worry—I can help refine your ideas into something that fits your style and vision. You might also want to bring snacks and water, especially for longer sessions, to keep your energy up.
12. What if I have allergies or sensitive skin?
If you have any allergies or sensitive skin, please let me know before your session. It’s important to talk to a dermatologist first, as I’m not a doctor. I use high-quality, hypoallergenic inks, but we can also do a patch test if needed to ensure there’s no reaction.
